Bangkok, Thailand – Viettel Group has received two international honors at the Global CSR & ESG Awards 2026, reinforcing its long-term commitment to sustainable development, digital inclusion, and responsible technology infrastructure.
The awards recognize two major areas of impact. Viettel Group received the Platinum Award for Excellence in Provision of Literacy & Education for its School Internet project, while Viettel IDC was honored with the Gold Award in the CSR & ESG Leadership category for its sustainable data center and cloud infrastructure initiatives.
At the Global CSR & ESG Awards, categories are ranked across four levels: Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Platinum is the highest level, awarded to initiatives with outstanding and lasting impact. The Global CSR & ESG Summit and Awards has been held annually since 2008 and is recognized as one of Asia’s prominent programs honoring corporate social responsibility and sustainable development.
Expanding Digital Access for Education
The School Internet project was launched by Viettel Group in 2008 in collaboration with Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training. At the time, Internet access in Vietnam remained limited, with national Internet usage at around 24% and rural access below 1%. Tens of thousands of schools had no network connectivity, limiting access to digital learning materials, online education platforms, and modern teaching methods.
Nearly 18 years later, the project has created wide-reaching social impact. Viettel Group has provided free Internet connectivity to nearly 40,000 educational institutions, equivalent to 92% of schools across Vietnam. The initiative has helped approximately 25 million students, teachers, and learners access online learning environments.
The project has also contributed to Vietnam’s broader digital development. The expansion of digital infrastructure in education has supported the growth of Internet usage in Vietnam from around 15% to 85%, placing the country among the top 20 nations globally by number of Internet users.
Narrowing the Digital Divide in Vietnam and Beyond
The Excellence in Provision of Literacy & Education Award recognizes initiatives that expand access to education and improve learning capacity through innovative and long-term solutions. Viettel Group’s School Internet project reflects this mission by using telecommunications infrastructure to create more equal access to knowledge.
The initiative has also been expanded to several international markets where Viettel Group invests in telecom infrastructure. In countries including Laos, Cambodia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Burundi, and Peru, Viettel Group has worked with local governments and education organizations to bring broadband Internet to thousands of schools, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
A Viettel representative stated that, for Viettel, digital infrastructure development is always connected with social responsibility. Internet connectivity for education not only creates more equal learning opportunities for students, but also builds a foundation for the long-term development of each country.
Advancing Sustainable Data Center and Cloud Infrastructure
At the same event, Viettel IDC received the Gold Award in the CSR & ESG Leadership category for companies with market capitalization below USD 500 million. The award recognizes Viettel IDC’s efforts to develop data center and cloud infrastructure in a sustainable direction, contributing to digital transformation while integrating environmental and social responsibility.
As cloud computing, AI, and data-driven services continue to expand, sustainable digital infrastructure has become increasingly important for enterprises and national digital economies. Data centers and cloud platforms are no longer only technical infrastructure; they are strategic assets that must be developed with long-term efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.
Viettel IDC continues to pursue ESG values with a people-centered philosophy. This includes building a healthy working environment, supporting employee welfare and equality, and making Cloud and AI services more accessible to businesses as they accelerate digital transformation.
The company also strengthens ESG governance through transparent reporting and emissions inventory activities aligned with international standards. In parallel, Viettel IDC maintains regular dialogue with partners and customers to promote responsible and sustainable growth across the digital infrastructure sector.
Technology for Long-Term Social Value
The recognition at the Global CSR & ESG Awards 2026 continues to affirm Viettel Group’s sustainable development direction as it builds digital infrastructure in Vietnam and international markets.
From connecting tens of millions of students and teachers to developing greener data centers for the digital economy, Viettel Group’s initiatives show a consistent approach: using technology to address social challenges while creating long-term value for communities and economies.
For Viettel Group, sustainable development is closely linked with digital infrastructure. By expanding access, improving connectivity, and promoting responsible technology deployment, the company continues to contribute to a more inclusive, resilient, and future-ready digital society.Bangkok, Thailand — Viettel Group has received two international honors at the Global CSR & ESG Awards 2026, reinforcing its long-term commitment to sustainable development, digital inclusion, and responsible technology infrastructure.
